Hey Math Team!
First of all, thank you for your work at the meeting! I think we were able to practice the format of competitions and see two different problem types. As a bonus, we were able to solve all of the problems, if not always on the first try! Nice work and thank you for coming to today's meeting with a positive attitude.
Secondly, I mentioned this but want to make sure we don't forget to write in our agendas/calendar at home. We will be participating in the Momence Math Contest which will be after school Wednesday, February 13, from 4-8:00 pm in Momence, IL. Please write this down and reserve that date for this competition! If you are not interested or able to compete in this event, please let me know so that I can register for the correct number of students. Otherwise, I am assuming that you would like to compete.
Please also be sure to let your parents or guardians know about this event. Specific information, including travel arrangements, will come as the event details are still being finalized. Remember, parents are absolutely welcome to attend these competitions. However, they will likely not be able to watch you complete the work itself- just the awards afterwards.
Thirdly, I think we all would have figured this out on Monday, but there will be no Math Team meeting on Monday, October 8 because there is no school that day. Our next team meeting will be the following week, on Monday October 15. At that meeting, we will look at some other types of problems we will see. Today, we did mental math and pair work. At the next meeting, we will try individual and team problems.
Finally, I showed this link at the meeting: https://mathcounts.nextthought.com/login/
This website has 8 different problem books which you can practice. I have had trouble with accessing this in Google Chrome (because of Flash issues) so you may need to try Internet Explorer or a home computer instead of a Chromebook. Also, I might be able to create a Group Code (similar to Google Classroom) for our team, but as of right now that function is blocked. If you choose to use this website and make an account, leave the group code blank. Clearly, this website is far from perfect, but the problem banks are good.
Please let me know if you have any questions about any of this!
Again, thank you for coming to our meetings and for your great work!
